The Mosaic Of Grey
"Ho, mala sagla badlaychay" (yes, I want to change everything). I remember telling this to my parents when they were highly reluctant to change the pink curtains in my room, which they had grown fond of more than me, through all the years of my childhood.
My room was getting renovated, and as a newly entitled adolescent, I was hell-bent on changing the signs of every pink, "Aphroditish" existence in my room. So, like every other teenager with a rebel mode on, I themed my room to grey from pink. Satisfied with this pretty evident announcement of "being old enough", I have lived the past 5 years of my life. But little did I know the true meaning of this grey surrounding me.
With whatever we all have seen or heard till now, we have a pretty binary understanding of positivity and negativity. We associate optimism with everything good and bright, and pessimism with the exact opposite. But, this utopian vision entraps us in two extremes, which does not work in the real world. The truth is, that positivity and negativity are bound to go together, in whichever situation one is. So, what does having a "positive outlook" mean? Well, everyone can have different opinions on this, I have presented my take in the form of a poem below:
Stroking his paintbrush
the artist contemplates
his painting which radiates
nothing but happiness.
Bright and mellow
the colours seem to ask
What could go wrong?
as all the dissapointments they mask.
Just then, the artist in gusto
is interrupted by the sound
of a fearful stroke of wind
banging onto the window
An intricately woven nest
has seen its fall
the brightness of the painting
into dullness has dissolved.
Picking up a new canvas
the artist creates darkness
As a nest woven with diligence
did not deserve this end.
At near completion
the artist looks out.
Awed, he finds the weaver finch
building her nest, all anew.
Sure it is a twig by twig
painfully slow process
but her marching on
is just what it takes
The artist sees his two creations
one too happy, one too sad
until a realisation dawns,
that is must not be white and black
The artist paints one last time
to decode what true hope is
then creates a mosaic of grey
that is deemed to be his masterpiece.
So, embracing the greys surrounding us and simply navigating through them, is what a positive outlook is, according to me.
It turned way too much philosophical right? Can't help it, because I realised this transition in my perception of hope today at 1 am, when I was scrollling through all my posts on this blog right from May 14, 2020 till today, and I felt it important to pen it down. Itna toh banta hai, to justify 1am thoughts😉
Thank you so much for reading this post, we'll meet again with a next post.
Do let me know your thoughts on "Grey" !
Nice one.....Very shady 😉.....
ReplyDeleteGrey is one of the few colours that suit me 🥲....embracing it is the only thing i can do.....
It's the Shiva philosophy. Nothing can be created without destroying the existing. Law of the nature...grey is our vision looking at balck and white things..
ReplyDeleteGray is a perfect neutral that lives between extremes of black and white... 🤍🖤
