Ja Simran Ja...

As I stand in my balcony, looking at the freshly drenched surroundings around me, thanks to Cyclone Tauktae that has struck the western coast of India, I can't help but think, ki COVID kam tha ki ab cyclone bhi aa gaya? I mean mangoes and May are a good combination, Rains and May are absolutely not! But I forcefully shut this shrill complaining voice in my head as a new realisation dawned on me, that we, as a society love cribbing! It is like we have a collective fetish to turn our face up on every situation. And this has accentuated over the past two COVID years, as if time has told us, "Ja Simran Ja, Kos Le Apni Zindagi"!

I mean, the word "depression" is so much in vogue today! People who don't even know what depression is are throwing about this word left and right. It is very easy to say na, ki "Bro, I'm feeling depressed". Dude, do you even know what clinical depression is? By using this word so nonchalantly, you are not only demeaning mental health and the people who are going through tough times, but are also ignoring your own problem! Because cribbing does this to us. Instead of finding a solution, we end up revolving about  in a merry-go-round with our problems. According to psychologists, people unknowingly deal with their difficulties by cribbing about them, which is very unhealthy, because slowly you start seeking comfort from this habit. So, your problem toh remains unsolved, but you turn into a toxic person too.

Now, here comes the difference between cribbing and complaining. To blame your situation and vent yourself out once in a while can be relaxing. But when you do this every time, your complains turn into cribs, and boss, that is exactly what an invitation to toxicity looks like.

I have been reading about Israel recently. This Jewish State was formed in 1948, with a population of just 650,000 people. 5 Arab nations, with a total population of a whopping 30,000,000, had sworn to destroy it. But guess what? not bogged down by its teensy-weensy population size as compared to its hostile counterparts, Israel went on to build the world's most technologically advanced military and intelligence. Israeli people till today practically live in an existential crisis- that they would wake up one morning to find their country is no longer on the world map. Seems a good enough reason to crib na? But to keep themselves from doing so, they have devised a motto:

'Terror won't stop unless we fight it. Danger won't disappear if we don't address it'.

Taking lessons from this State and applying them in our own small ways would do us good.

It became quite a heavy read at the end na? Rains do that to you... can't help it!

Thank you for reading this post and we'll meet again soon with a next one. I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Bbye

Until next time
