SEHAR - ENLIVENING LIVES

'Those who have the privilege to know have the duty to share'.
This quote was blaring on a computer in our school's computer lab where Yesha Shah, Yashvi Shah,Atiya Memon,Adisha Shaikh  and I were brainstorming to execute our development project - SEHAR - Enlivening Lives; which is a student based network that acts as a catalyst to enable school students take a leap towards community outreach. On that day, the five of us were making a presentation for the students of grade 9 to 12 of our school to share with them our idea of Sehar. But, what is Sehar? What do we do?How do we do? and Why do we do so? To answer to your questions in detail, it would take me a couple of blogs, so, to brief you about us, I am providing you with this link to our short film. Please do watch this 5 minute film so that you stay relevant to the information provided further in this blog.

I have often read it in books, seen it in movies and heard it in stories, that when you perform an act of kindness, you experience Joy of the kind you may never have experienced before. After the First session of Sehar, I actually felt the paramount joy about which I had read, seen or heard previously.
So, today I want to share with you the poem in which I had expressed my feelings when I returned home after our first session of Sehar.

POWER YOU HARNESS
Today I know how much power holds kindness,
that one simple act can give someone happiness.
As I untie my shoelace,
all that lingers in my mind
is the smile on their face.

We went to their school,
not expecting much,
Thought we'd teach them something
which wouldn't matter as such.

Boy, we were so wrong
we had given them wings,
to fly and dance
to their own song.

Like spring breeze their thoughts escaped,
with curiosity their eyes widened.
Unknowingly albeit,
we had them shaped.

Suddenly, amidst echoes of voices,
admiring nuclear prowess
I realized that compassion and kindness,
is the greatest power one can harness.

In the short film, you must have seen the statistics pointing towards the dire condition of the literate population of children in India. the fact remains, that literacy alone, cannot help us strengthen the foundation of the youth population of our country. What should be taken into urgent consideration is the holistic development of children, which will give rise to educated individuals, rather than mere literate ones in future.

Sehar would just have been a PowerPoint Presentation in a computer of our school's computer lab, if our school hadn't supported us. I sincerely thank the Pricipal of Anand Vidya Vihar Ms. Poornima Menon, and all the teachers who helped us initiate Sehar.

The Sehar Team was looking forward to continue its work this year too, but, unfortunately, due to the lockdown, is not able to do so. To all the young folks like me who are reading this, I want you to remember that during this lockdown, study material and even schools are just one click away from us. But, there is a Ramu in every locality, who though wants to study, cannot do so easily. Thus, I appeal to you to start your own organisation like Sehar in your school once this lockdown is lifted, as, from now on,' कोई और कर लेगा '  mindset is not going to work.

I thank everyone who is reading this blog and I'm open to their feedback. We'll meet again soon with a next blog.

Bbye
Until next time.
